In a major step toward global decarbonization, AM Green and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a green energy supply chain connecting India and Northwestern Europe. The collaboration will focus on the export of up to 1 million tons of green fuels annually, including green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and hydrogen derivatives, potentially generating $1 billion in trade between the two regions.
As part of the agreement, the partners will co-develop terminal infrastructure, bunkering capabilities, and strategic port facilities in Rotterdam to safely receive, store, and distribute hydrogen-based fuels. The partnership also envisions linking India’s Net Zero Industrial Clusters to Europe, enabling seamless delivery of clean energy to meet growing demand in hard-to-abate sectors.
AM Green, founded by the promoters of Greenko Group, is targeting 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia production by 2030, equivalent to 1 MTPA of green hydrogen. Initial production will commence in Kakinada, India, with plans to scale up across multiple Indian locations.
Meanwhile, the Port of Rotterdam—Europe’s largest energy hub handling 13% of the continent’s energy—continues to lead as a gateway for hydrogen carriers and low-carbon fuels. Its advanced logistics and infrastructure make it a key partner for India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Europe’s REPowerEU strategy.
“We are delighted to collaborate with AM Green to strengthen our commitment to the energy transition,” said Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. “With India’s vast green hydrogen potential and Rotterdam’s infrastructure, this partnership creates a robust, sustainable supply chain between our regions.”
Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder of AM Green and Greenko Group, added: “This is a major milestone in our global clean energy strategy. Our collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam will enable the efficient movement of green fuels from India to Europe and support the decarbonization of heavy industries and aviation.”
