International technology group ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract for the authority engineering of a 100MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany, a project spearheaded by REPCO (rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH). The joint venture consists of RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG, and Rostock Port GmbH.
A Milestone for Germany’s Hydrogen Infrastructure
Pending a final investment decision in mid-2025, REPCO plans to commission ANDRITZ to proceed with the full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the plant. Once completed, this facility will be one of the first in Germany to connect to the Hydrogen Core Network, a future European Hydrogen Backbone set to launch in 2028. The plant will also supply local industries and mobility sectors, furthering Germany’s decarbonization goals.
“The 100MW electrolyzer is the centerpiece of the HyTechHafen Rostock project, which aims to advance the energy transition in Europe. This is a crucial project for Rostock, reinforcing the position of the area as a key hub for energy transportation. ANDRITZ has demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the entire scope, and we value their flexibility and collaborative approach,” said Michael Wurzel, Managing Director of REPCO.
ANDRITZ to Deliver Full-Scale Hydrogen Infrastructure
Upon approval, ANDRITZ will integrate HydrogenPro’s pressurized alkaline technology into the electrolysis system, providing:
✔ Green hydrogen production plant
✔ Offsite & utility systems
✔ Hydrogen purification and compression
✔ Storage facilities
✔ A hydrogen filling station
Commissioning is planned for 2027, positioning the Rostock facility as a key contributor to Germany’s hydrogen economy.
“No one can achieve the green transition alone. That’s why we are excited to see major German energy companies and Rostock Port GmbH leading by example and joining forces to drive progress. We are proud to be part of this significant green hydrogen project and to work towards a more sustainable future,” said Sami Pelkonen, EVP Green Hydrogen at ANDRITZ.
ANDRITZ’s Growing Green Hydrogen Portfolio
This marks the second 100MW green hydrogen project in Germany awarded to ANDRITZ, following an earlier contract from Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. The company continues to play a leading role in scaling up Europe’s hydrogen infrastructure and supporting the continent’s clean energy transition.
