Bright Hydrogen Solutions has reached key execution milestones on two green hydrogen developments in Portugal, advancing a 15 MW industrial production project in Sines and a separate hydrogen production and refuelling project in Chaves.
The developments move both projects further beyond the engineering and equipment preparation stages, with the Sines project progressing toward contracting and tendering while equipment for the Chaves project is now being transported to Portugal.
For the 15 MW green hydrogen production facility in Sines, BrightHy has completed and submitted the full engineering package required under its front-end engineering design (FEED) contract.
The work establishes the technical basis for the planned Hydrogen Production Unit and includes validation of major design assumptions, assessment of execution risks and further definition of the project’s technical requirements.
Completion of the FEED package gives the client a basis for defining the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope, approaching potential contractors and proceeding with the tendering process.
The Sines development was originally announced by BrightHy in September 2025.
Chaves hydrogen project enters delivery phase
BrightHy has also reached a significant milestone on its hydrogen project in Chaves, Portugal, where the company is working on an electrolyser and hydrogen refuelling station.
Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) have now been successfully completed for the project’s main equipment packages.
BrightHy representatives travelled to China to participate in the testing alongside the company’s strategic partners Sungrow Hydrogen and Houpu Global Clean Energy. Following completion of the FAT process, the equipment has begun its journey to the Chaves project site.
The development represents a different application of hydrogen from the Sines project. While Sines is focused on industrial-scale green hydrogen production, the Chaves development combines electrolysis with hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, targeting the clean mobility market.
“From completing FEED engineering for a 15 MW industrial hydrogen production facility in Sines to advancing the Chaves hydrogen refueling station into the delivery phase, our team remains focused on disciplined execution and turning green hydrogen projects into operational infrastructure,” said João Jorge, Engineering and Product Director at BrightHy Solutions.
Building green hydrogen infrastructure in Portugal
Together, the two projects give BrightHy exposure to both major areas in which renewable hydrogen is expected to be deployed: industrial decarbonisation and clean mobility.
The latest milestones are also significant because they relate to project execution rather than early-stage development announcements. In Sines, engineering has progressed sufficiently to provide a technical foundation for the contracting process, while in Chaves, key equipment has passed factory testing and is being shipped to the project site.
BrightHy positions itself as an engineering and project delivery partner across the hydrogen production value chain. Its activities include plant design, engineering, equipment sourcing and implementation oversight.
With the latest progress in Sines and Chaves, the company is now advancing two separate Portuguese green hydrogen projects toward their next stages of development, strengthening its presence in the emerging hydrogen infrastructure market in Southern Europe.
