HyCC has announced plans to develop a large-scale green hydrogen plant in Rotterdam, named H2Next, aimed at accelerating industrial decarbonization in the region. The announcement was made during the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam.
As part of the project, HyCC has signed an agreement with the Port of Rotterdam Authority to reserve a site at the Maasvlakte hydrogen conversion park, located near the planned landfall of several major offshore wind farms. This strategic location will allow H2Next to leverage renewable electricity for hydrogen production.
The H2Next facility is being designed to produce around 25,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, targeting the refining, chemical, and mobility sectors within the port area. In addition, the plant will be well-positioned to serve broader industrial demand across Northwest Europe, thanks to connections with the Dutch national hydrogen backbone and the Delta Rhine Corridor infrastructure.
HyCC is currently concluding the project’s study phase and plans to reach a final investment decision by 2028, with hydrogen production expected to begin by 2030.
H2Next represents another key step in the Netherlands’ transition toward a low-carbon economy and reinforces Rotterdam’s growing role as a central hub for the future European hydrogen economy.
