Lhyfe (EURONEXT: LHYFE), a trailblazer in renewable hydrogen production, has officially delivered France’s first batches of RFNBO-certified green hydrogen from its flagship site in Bouin, Vendée. This milestone establishes Lhyfe as the first hydrogen producer in France to meet the RFNBO (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) certification—Europe’s most rigorous ecological standard for green hydrogen as defined by the European Commission.
The Bouin site, powered entirely by renewable electricity and with an installed capacity of 1 MW, now provides certified hydrogen that enables customers to qualify for emerging national and EU incentive programs while demonstrating compliance with the highest sustainability criteria.
Certification Supports a Growing Green Hydrogen Market
The certification guarantees that hydrogen production at Bouin complies with strict EU requirements, including:
-
Electrolysis using 100% renewable electricity
-
Full life-cycle emissions accounting (including transport)
-
Transparent traceability of production inputs
The hydrogen delivered from Bouin—first dispatched to Les Sables d’Olonne on 28 May 2025—can now be used by industrial and mobility customers seeking to reduce their carbon footprints and access EU-supported financial incentives.
Lhyfe is actively certifying its additional French production sites in Bessières (Haute-Garonne) and Buléon (Morbihan), along with its German facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd, which is expected to be certified soon.
Strategic Collaborations for Full Traceability
Lhyfe partnered with three leading European organizations to secure its certification:
-
Atmen: Provided a real-time compliance and data-tracking platform that consolidates and automates hydrogen production and emissions data with unmatched granularity.
-
CertifHy: Supplied the EU-approved RFNBO certification scheme, developed through industry-wide consultation to ensure robust alignment with EU directives.
-
TÜV SÜD: As one of the first authorized certification bodies under the CertifHy scheme, TÜV SÜD verified Lhyfe’s processes and compliance across its supply chain.
A Major Step in Lhyfe’s Ramp-Up
Bouin is more than a pioneer—it was the first industrial green hydrogen site in the world connected directly to a wind farm. Since its 2021 launch, the facility has played a pivotal role in scaling Lhyfe’s operations and proving the feasibility of local, green hydrogen production.
Lhyfe has since deployed two 5 MW facilities in France, commissioned a 10 MW site in Germany, and is constructing additional 5 MW and 10 MW sites. The company has also secured €149 million in public funding for a 100 MW project in France and is actively developing large-scale initiatives of up to 800 MW in Germany.
A Future Powered by Transparent, Renewable Hydrogen
“This is the moment the industry has been waiting for: RFNBO-certified green hydrogen is now available in France,” said Matthieu Guesné, founder and CEO of Lhyfe. “We’re rolling out certification across our operational sites in France and Germany, ensuring that our hydrogen is not only green, but fully traceable and regulation-compliant.”
With a 9.1 GW project pipeline across 11 European countries, support from international investors like Mitsui and EDPR, and backing from national governments in France, Spain, and Sweden, Lhyfe is solidifying its position as a European leader in green hydrogen.
About Lhyfe
Lhyfe is a European energy transition company dedicated to producing and supplying industrial-scale green and renewable hydrogen. The company develops decentralized hydrogen production sites powered by wind and solar, with the aim of decarbonizing sectors such as transportation and heavy industry. In 2022, Lhyfe also launched the world’s first offshore green hydrogen pilot platform.
With certified hydrogen now available, Lhyfe continues to lead the charge in making clean, transparent, and sustainable energy accessible across Europe.
