MB Energy and Gen2 Energy Join Forces to Develop Green Liquid Hydrogen Supply Chain from Norway to Germany

MB Energy, a leading European energy company, and Gen2 Energy, a Norwegian producer of renewable hydrogen, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a liquid hydrogen supply chain between Norway and Germany. The agreement, announced at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo in Hamburg, aims to accelerate the cross-border transport and distribution of RFNBO-compliant green hydrogen, supporting Europe’s industrial decarbonisation and energy transition goals.

Building a Cross-Border Hydrogen Corridor

Under the new partnership, the companies will collaborate on the production, offtake, and distribution of green liquid hydrogen from Gen2 Energy’s planned facility in Nesbruket, Norway, to MB Energy’s customer network in Germany. The agreement provides a framework for long-term cooperation over the next three years, strengthening both the production capacity and offtake potential for renewable hydrogen between the two countries.

A central focus will be on developing and optimising the logistics chain for the transport of liquid hydrogen — including storage, shipping, and distribution — while assessing cost-efficiency, technical feasibility, and safety requirements.

“With Gen2 Energy, we have an experienced partner at our side,” said Volker Ebeling, Senior Vice President New Energy, Supply & Infrastructure at MB Energy. “We believe in the long-term potential of liquid hydrogen as a key enabler of the energy transition, especially for commercial transport. This cooperation brings us a significant step closer to that future.”

Lena Halvari, CEO of Gen2 Energy, added: “This partnership provides us with access to the German market, one of Europe’s largest for green hydrogen. Producing RFNBO-compliant liquid hydrogen at scale requires strong market demand, and MB Energy’s extensive network ensures our projects in Norway can deliver meaningful impact for the energy transition.”

Advancing the Hydrogen Economy in Northern Europe

The collaboration between MB Energy and Gen2 Energy aligns with the European Union’s goals to expand hydrogen infrastructure and promote renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs). By establishing a robust, commercial-scale hydrogen corridor between Norway and Germany, the companies aim to decarbonise transport and industry while enhancing Europe’s energy security.
