Norwegian Hydrogen is leading a significant project, funded by a €9 million grant from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, to develop a comprehensive green hydrogen ecosystem at Denmark’s Port of Hirtshals. This initiative, part of the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program, aims to harness renewable energy for hydrogen production, contributing to the port’s decarbonization. The consortium behind this project, consisting of ten partners, plans to integrate renewable energy from local wind turbines, construct a 5 MW electrolyzer, and establish extensive refueling infrastructure for heavy-duty transport, alongside networks for hydrogen, oxygen, and heat distribution.
This project, named CONVEY, focuses on creating a circular economy within the port’s operations, ensuring sustainable and efficient use of resources. With an annual target of producing at least 500 tonnes of green hydrogen, CONVEY is set to become a pioneering model for green port transformation in the Nordic region and beyond. The collaboration showcases the potential of hydrogen and its byproducts in driving forward a sustainable energy future.
