PowerCell and Bosch Expand Strategic Hydrogen Fuel Cell Partnership to Accelerate Global and Chinese Market Growth

PowerCell Group is strengthening its long-term partnership with Robert Bosch GmbH to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell systems, particularly in the mobility sector. The expanded collaboration also includes joint evaluation of market opportunities in stationary applications, reinforcing the companies’ shared ambition to make hydrogen technology more accessible across key global regions—especially China and the broader power generation sector.

Bosch Secures IP Rights for Chinese Market Adaptation

As part of the agreement, Bosch has acquired extended intellectual property rights to adapt PowerCell’s S3 fuel cell stack for the automotive market in China, one of the world’s fastest-growing regions for hydrogen technology. The agreement, valued at approximately €6 million, will support Bosch in tailoring the fuel cell system to local demands while maintaining a global scalability outlook. PowerCell will reflect the financial impact of this deal in its Q2 2025 interim report.

Unlocking Joint Growth in China’s Non-Automotive Sectors

In addition to automotive applications, PowerCell will grant Bosch access to select non-automotive customers in China, including industries such as backup power, construction equipment, and industrial mobility. These sectors are undergoing rapid electrification and demand robust, efficient hydrogen solutions. By combining Bosch’s manufacturing scale with PowerCell’s advanced fuel cell technology, the partnership aims to accelerate hydrogen adoption in these emerging markets.

“We are happy to continue to build on this very strong industrial collaboration,” said Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group. “This agreement reinforces the partnership and, with our combined expertise, we excel at bridging the gap between technological platforms and real-world customer needs. Together with Bosch, we scale faster, smarter, and more sustainably.”

The strengthened alliance positions both companies at the forefront of the global hydrogen transition, delivering high-performance fuel cell solutions for both transportation and industrial applications, while targeting scalable growth in high-potential markets like China.
