PowerCell Secures First Commercial Order for Hydrogen Fuel Cells in Hitachi Energy’s Off-Grid Hyflex™ System

PowerCell Group has achieved a major milestone in clean energy with its first commercial order to supply hydrogen fuel cell systems for Hitachi Energy’s Hyflex™ platform—a cutting-edge, off-grid power solution designed to replace traditional diesel generators with zero-emission hydrogen-powered electricity.

The order includes the delivery of two PowerCell Power-Generation System 225 units, which will serve as the primary energy source for the Hyflex™, a scalable, plug-and-play hydrogen generator. The Hyflex™ system has been co-developed by PowerCell and Hitachi Energy since their strategic collaboration began in 2021.

After successful demonstration projects and field trials, Hitachi Energy is now moving forward with the first commercial deployment of the Hyflex™. PowerCell’s role in delivering the fuel cell systems underscores the trust in its technology’s performance, reliability, and commercial readiness.

“We are delighted to sign this initial commercial order with Hitachi Energy,” said Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group. “This order shows the growing momentum in the power generation market, particularly for hydrogen-based systems. Hitachi Energy is a leading OEM with an unmatched legacy in grid infrastructure, making it the ideal partner to help bring these innovative solutions to scale.”

The Hyflex™ platform is tailored for off-grid and remote applications, offering a clean and quiet alternative to diesel generators. It is poised to support industries, communities, and emergency response sectors seeking reliable, sustainable energy solutions that reduce emissions and noise pollution.

This order represents a key step for PowerCell into the commercial hydrogen power generation sector, affirming its role as a trusted technology provider for the next generation of emission-free energy systems.
