RIC Energy and Siemens have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of renewable hydrogen, green ammonia, and e-fuel projects in Spain. The partnership aims to accelerate the country’s energy transition, with a particular focus on sustainable aviation fuels (e-SAF) and large-scale industrial decarbonization.
At the heart of this collaboration is RIC Energy’s Compostilla Green project in Cubillos del Sil (León)—an e-SAF production facility recently named the top-rated initiative under Spain’s Hydrogen Valleys programme by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).
The MoU includes the involvement of several Siemens Group entities—Siemens S.A., Siemens Industry Software, Siemens Financial Services, and Siemens Innovation Strategies—and covers both technical innovation and structured financing solutions to support project execution.
Key Areas of Collaboration:
-
Enhancing operational efficiency and industrial safety
-
Decarbonizing core processes in fuel production
-
Implementing advanced digitalization technologies
-
Exploring joint financial structures for project development
-
Public outreach and communication strategies to highlight regional socio-economic benefits
In addition to Compostilla Green, Siemens will also support RIC Energy’s Besaya project in Torrelavega (Cantabria)—another strategic initiative focused on sustainable fuel production at an industrial scale.
“The signing of this agreement consolidates an excellent relationship between Siemens and RIC Energy, which began several months ago and opens up new opportunities to accelerate the deployment of transformative projects in the field of hydrogen and its derivatives,”
said José Luis Moya, CEO of RIC Energy.
“This agreement reflects Siemens’ commitment to the decarbonization process, paving the way for a more sustainable society and supporting industrial initiatives such as RIC Energy’s, which position Spain as a benchmark in the production of sustainable fuels,”
added Fernando Silva, CEO of Siemens Spain.
Looking ahead, both companies will work on building vertically integrated consortiums to scale and streamline the rollout of these clean energy projects—bolstering Spain’s position as a leader in sustainable fuel innovation.
