Yamna Signs MoU to Develop ₹16,000 Cr Green Ammonia Plant in Andhra Pradesh

UK-based green hydrogen and ammonia developer YamnaCo Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to develop a large-scale green ammonia production facility in the state. The announcement was made during the Green Hydrogen Summit at SRM University AP, Amaravati, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, who also revealed the state’s plan to establish a Green Hydrogen Valley.

The project involves a total investment of INR 16,000 crores (~USD 2 billion) and is expected to produce up to 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually near Krishnapatnam Port, leveraging renewable electricity from India’s national grid. The facility is projected to create approximately 5,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Yamna will adopt a Develop-Build-Own-Operate (DBOO) model and has committed to a phased development strategy aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets 5 million tonnes per year of green hydrogen production by 2030.

“The state’s renewable energy resources, supportive policy environment, and logistics infrastructure make it a compelling location for green ammonia development,” said Gal Bogin, Chief Development Officer of Yamna.

“This collaboration with Andhra Pradesh advances our mission to support global decarbonization and establish a reliable supply of green molecules to both domestic and international markets,” added Shailendra Bebortha, Country Head (India) at Yamna.

Yamna’s portfolio includes a 1 Mtpa green ammonia project in Oman, co-developed with J-POWER (Japan) and EDF (France). Its core strengths lie in project structuring, offtake partnerships, and execution in emerging green energy markets. The proposed Andhra Pradesh project will serve both Indian industry and export markets, capitalizing on the state’s access to key global shipping lanes.
