De Nora, an Italian multinational specializing in electrochemistry and sustainable technologies, is collaborating with Maffei Sarda Silicati to develop a state-of-the-art green hydrogen production plant in Ossi (Sassari). The project, funded through Italy’s PNRR recovery plan, marks a significant milestone in Sardinia’s transition to clean energy.

The initiative, spearheaded by Maffei Sarda Silicati—a key player in raw material processing for the ceramic and glass industries—includes De Nora’s innovative Dragonfly® electrolyzer. This compact, modular system, with a 1 MW production capacity, will generate approximately 50 tons of green hydrogen annually. The hydrogen will replace fossil fuels in Maffei’s industrial processes, reducing emissions and advancing decarbonization efforts.

Powered by 100% Renewable Energy

The plant will be powered by a newly installed 1.5 MW photovoltaic system located on the same site, ensuring a fully sustainable hydrogen production process. Built on a repurposed industrial site, the project not only revitalizes the area but also underscores Sardinia’s commitment to renewable energy.

Paolo Dellachà, CEO of De Nora, emphasized the company’s role in facilitating green transitions:
