It is an exciting development that steel company H2 Green Steels has signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Thyssenkrupp Nucera for the construction of a large electrolyzer plant. The planned steel mill in Boden will produce fossil-free steel and is expected to be completed in a couple of years.
One of the prominent features of the project is that when production starts in late 2025, it will be one of the world’s, if not the world’s, largest green hydrogen production facilities. H2 Green Steels will use all the produced hydrogen for its own purposes, as stated by CEO Henrik Henriksson to TT.
This initiative is part of the transition towards sustainable production and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in the steel industry. By utilizing green hydrogen-based processes, the reliance on fossil fuels can be reduced or eliminated, thereby mitigating the negative environmental impacts.
