ABL Group Joins AquaVentus to Help Drive 10 GW Green Hydrogen Production from North Sea Wind by 2035

Global consultancy ABL Group has joined the AquaVentus initiative, a groundbreaking green energy project aimed at developing 10 GW of green hydrogen capacity using offshore wind in the North Sea by 2035. AquaVentus Förderverein e.V. is dedicated to accelerating innovation in offshore hydrogen production, with plans to deploy large-scale electrolysers at sea powered by wind farms, generating up to 1 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually.

With offices in key North Sea countries including Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Denmark, Norway, and France, ABL Group will contribute its extensive engineering and marine consultancy expertise to the AquaVentus consortium. ABL’s involvement will focus on providing pipeline engineering management and marine consultancy services, supporting the development of offshore electrolysis and hydrogen infrastructure.

Sergio Leone, Project Manager at ABL, highlighted the company’s extensive experience in the region: “ABL has a long history of acting as an engineering and marine consultant on offshore infrastructure projects in the North Sea, including hydrogen innovation. We were recently contracted by GASCADE Gastransport GmbH to provide marine warranty survey services for the construction of a 50-kilometer subsea pipeline that will eventually feed green hydrogen into the German grid.”

Nils Falkenhorst, Country Manager at OWC, an ABL Group company, added: “Our group-wide experience covers over 50 hydrogen projects worldwide, including in the North Sea. This multi-disciplinary expertise positions us perfectly to support the exciting AquaVentus consortium in its mission to drive the energy transition.”

AquaVentus brings together leading international companies, research institutions, and innovators to collaborate on the production of green hydrogen in the North Sea, as well as the development of the transport infrastructure needed to bring this clean energy to shore.
