Clyde Hydrogen and PlusZero Partner to Deploy Breakthrough Green Hydrogen Electrolyser

Clyde Hydrogen Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PlusZero, a Hebrides-based green hydrogen producer and distributor, to deploy and test Clyde Hydrogen’s innovative decoupled electrolyser technology—marking its first real-world demonstration outside the laboratory.

A Game-Changing Electrolyser for Scalable Green Hydrogen

Clyde Hydrogen, headquartered in Glasgow, has developed a high-pressure green hydrogen electrolyser designed to improve scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to enhance how renewable energy is integrated with hydrogen production, addressing one of the biggest challenges in the industry today.

The company launched a £5 million funding round in December 2024 to accelerate the commercialization of this technology.

Demonstration at PlusZero’s Green Hydrogen Hub in Stornoway

PlusZero has secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Emerging Energies Technology Fund (EETF) to develop its first green hydrogen production facility at the Creed Hydrogen Skills and Innovation Centre in Stornoway. The facility, set to launch in October 2025, will serve as a commercial production hub, a hydrogen technology training center, and a testing site for next-generation electrolysers.

Under the MoU:

  • PlusZero will deploy and operate Clyde Hydrogen’s commercial demonstrator electrolyser for at least six months.
  • PlusZero has an option to purchase an initial 10 MW of electrolyser capacity from Clyde Hydrogen.
