PowerCell Secures SEK 165 Million Order for World’s Largest Marine Fuel Cell Systems from Italian OEM

PowerCell Group has secured one of the largest marine fuel cell system orders globally, worth SEK 165 million, from a leading Italian marine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Deliveries are set to begin in mid-2025 and will be completed by the end of that year.

The order, which is split into three parts, includes 56 units of PowerCell’s Marine System 225. Most of these units will be installed on commercial cruise ships, providing auxiliary power to internal electrical systems, with a total capacity exceeding 6.3 MW. Additionally, a 3.2 MW marine power solution is being developed for an internal testbed and another 3.2 MW system for a separate vessel installation.

This order marks a major milestone in the decarbonization of the marine industry and represents one of the world’s largest hydrogen fuel cell installations on a ship to date.

Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group, expressed pride in the collaboration:
“We are honored to be chosen by this esteemed Italian customer, known for its expertise in containerized marine power solutions. Our fuel cell technology offers a climate-friendly solution, with the added benefit of reduced ship noise. This order highlights the growing importance of hydrogen-electric solutions in the maritime sector.”

Berkling added:
“This also marks a shift toward a more commercial and OEM-driven market, a direction we’ve been working toward. With significant deliveries to marine projects this year, this new order strengthens PowerCell’s position as a leading supplier of hydrogen-electric solutions for the maritime industry.”

This significant order further establishes PowerCell’s leadership in the green transformation of the marine industry, advancing global efforts to reduce emissions and promote sustainable shipping.
