Powering Sweden’s Green Future: Lhyfe, OX2, and Velarion Join Forces to Create a Groundbreaking Hydrogen Industrial Cluster in Ånge

Lhyfe, a global leader in green hydrogen production, OX2, one of Europe’s largest onshore wind developers, and Velarion, an innovative green fertilizer company founded in Ånge, have announced a collaborative effort to create a cutting-edge hydrogen-based industrial cluster in Ånge municipality. This ambitious project, located in Grönsta just north of Torpshammar, aims to integrate wind power with large-scale green hydrogen production to generate carbon-neutral products, setting a new standard for sustainable industry.

At the heart of this initiative is the development of a wind farm by OX2 in Marktjärn, Torpshammar, which is projected to have an annual production capacity of 1.4 TWh. This green electricity will power a hydrogen production unit that Lhyfe plans to establish in Torpshammar, with a capacity of up to 100 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, supported by an electrolysis capacity of approximately 300 MW. Lhyfe’s production process involves the electrolysis of water, utilizing renewable energy to produce green and renewable hydrogen.

“We are excited about the potential of this project, which will utilize electricity from the Marktjärn wind farm to power a green industrial cluster. This will not only foster sustainable local industry but also enhance Ånge’s attractiveness for future industrial developments,” said Anders Nilsson, Head of Onshore Wind at OX2.

The project has already sparked interest from multiple companies that are keen to refine hydrogen and its by-products, with the goal of building a local ecosystem that will drive regional economic growth and create jobs. “Given the significant production capacity, we are actively engaging with several companies to establish partnerships that will contribute to the region’s economy and foster job creation,” added Sara Wihlborg, Country Manager Sweden at Lhyfe.

A key partner in this endeavor is Velarion, which plans to construct one of the world’s first carbon-neutral fertilizer plants within the cluster. This state-of-the-art facility will use green hydrogen to produce green ammonia, a crucial component in sustainable fertilizer production that drastically reduces carbon emissions. The green ammonia produced will meet the growing market demand for eco-friendly products.

The project is currently entering its conceptual phase, with further progress dependent on the outcomes of feasibility studies, the acquisition of necessary operating licenses and environmental permits, and final investment decisions.

Together, Lhyfe, OX2, and Velarion are poised to transform Ånge into a regional green energy hub. By leveraging advanced technologies and collaborative expertise, this industrial cluster is expected to have long-term positive impacts, positioning Ånge as a leading municipality in the sustainable industrial sector and attracting additional businesses to the area.
