Everfuel A/S and Crossbridge Energy Fredericia A/S have successfully produced and delivered the first hydrogen from the HySynergy I project to the Crossbridge Energy refinery. This marks a major step forward in advancing Denmark’s hydrogen economy and scaling up green hydrogen production for industrial use.
A Milestone for Green Hydrogen in Denmark
Located in Fredericia, Denmark, HySynergy I is a 20MW green hydrogen facility—one of the largest in Europe—designed to drive sustainable fuel production for hard-to-electrify sectors such as aviation, shipping, and heavy transportation. This first successful delivery demonstrates the progress made by Everfuel, Crossbridge Energy, and project partners in developing a stable and scalable hydrogen infrastructure.
Finn Schousboe, CEO of Crossbridge Energy A/S, emphasized the project’s significance:
“This is a crucial step towards producing more green fuels for sectors that cannot be electrified. However, for hydrogen to truly drive the green transition, legislation must recognize its value in meeting fuel displacement requirements. We need a framework that ensures green hydrogen is not just an additional cost but a catalyst for large-scale transformation in transportation.”
Jacob Krogsgaard, Founder and CEO of Everfuel, echoed this sentiment:
“This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our teams and partners. It has been a long journey, but we are now positioned to steadily ramp up production. I want to extend my deepest thanks to our partners, particularly Crossbridge Energy, for their patience and commitment. Together, we’ve taken an essential first step—now, it’s time for society to follow.”
Scaling Up Production for a Sustainable Future
HySynergy I is a collaboration between Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy, with district heating operator TVIS utilizing surplus heat from the hydrogen production process. The facility will now enter a ramp-up phase, focusing on optimizing operations and increasing hydrogen output. An official inauguration event with key stakeholders and media is planned for later this year.
A Strategic European Hydrogen Hub
HySynergy I is co-owned by Everfuel (51%) and Hy24 (49%), the manager of the world’s largest hydrogen infrastructure fund. The project has received €6.5 million in funding from the Danish Energy Agency and €3.8 million from the European Union via the Connecting Europe Facility.
This achievement solidifies Denmark’s position as a key player in Europe’s hydrogen transition, paving the way for large-scale green fuel production and accelerating industrial decarbonization.
