Preparations are in full swing at the Port of Klaipėda, where construction of the Baltic States’ first green hydrogen production and refueling station is set to begin. MT Group, a leading European energy infrastructure developer, has chosen Nord Steel to manufacture and supply advanced hydrogen storage tanks for the project.
Cutting-Edge Hydrogen Storage Solutions
Nord Steel, a Lithuanian company with extensive expertise in steel fabrication, will design, manufacture, and deliver three hydrogen storage tanks at a cost of €1.4 million. These include:
- A 40-bar green hydrogen buffer tank.
- Two high-pressure storage tanks capable of withstanding 550 bar and 1,000 bar pressures.
This state-of-the-art infrastructure will set a benchmark for hydrogen projects across the Baltic region.
Strategic Importance of the Project
Algis Latakas, General Director of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, emphasized the project’s broader impact:
“This is a transformative step in modernizing Klaipėda Port’s infrastructure and a significant investment in sustainable solutions. It showcases Lithuania’s industrial ability to adapt to global challenges and actively contribute to shaping a cleaner and more innovative future.”
