Gen2 Energy to Develop Major Green Hydrogen Facility at Lundevågen in Farsund

Gen2 Energy has signed a strategic agreement with Farsund Municipality, securing long-term access to the Lundevågen Havneområde industrial site. The agreement enables Gen2 Energy to build a large-scale green hydrogen production facility and utilize quay facilities for the transport of hydrogen to markets in Norway and Europe.

The new facility aims to deliver high volumes of green hydrogen, strengthening Gen2 Energy’s growing portfolio of production sites along the Norwegian coast.

“We are very pleased to have chosen Farsund as a location for large-scale green hydrogen production,” said Jan Fredrik Råknes, Head of Business Development at Gen2 Energy. “Farsund offers an excellent combination of low-cost renewable energy, available industrial land, and strong maritime logistics, making it an ideal site for our expansion.”

The agreement grants Gen2 Energy the right to develop more than 60 acres at Lundevågen. Preparations for land regulation and permitting specifically for hydrogen production will begin immediately. In parallel, Gen2 Energy is conducting a concept study to finalize key details regarding plant size and production technology.

Mayor Ingrid Williamsen of Farsund Municipality expressed optimism about the collaboration:

“Today, I signed an option agreement with Gen2 Energy. It’s exciting to see this project take shape, and we look forward to a productive partnership that supports Farsund’s role in the green transition.”

A crucial part of the agreement ensures Gen2 Energy’s access to necessary renewable power, land, and port infrastructure, creating optimal conditions for the efficient production and distribution of large quantities of green hydrogen.

The project represents an important step in scaling up Norway’s hydrogen economy and positioning Farsund as a hub for sustainable energy development.
