PowerCell has announced a landmark order valued at SEK 150 million for its newly launched M2Power 250 system from a leading European shipyard. This order marks the first commercial sale of the company’s fully integrated methanol-to-power solution, introduced in Q3 2024. The contract includes a 2 MW installation of M2Power 250 systems and is scheduled for delivery in 2029.
The M2Power 250 system transforms methanol into clean electricity to power a vessel’s internal electrical systems—offering shipbuilders and operators a sustainable energy alternative. As methanol gains traction as a next-generation marine fuel, PowerCell’s solution offers a practical pathway for reducing emissions in the shipping industry.
The deal encompasses both engineering services and product delivery, reinforcing PowerCell’s leadership in advanced maritime energy systems and marking a key step in expanding the company’s offering beyond fuel cell electrification.
Richard Berkling, CEO of PowerCell Group, commented:
“It’s fantastic to see such strong market demand so soon after launch. M2Power 250 simplifies integration for shipyards and accelerates hydrogen adoption—even in regions where infrastructure isn’t fully built out yet.”
He added:
“By using reformed methanol to expand hydrogen access, we’re significantly increasing our addressable market and maximizing the value of each installation. This is core to our ‘industrialised innovation’ strategy—delivering certified, scalable solutions that create immediate and long-term impact in the energy transition.”
With this breakthrough order, PowerCell underscores its commitment to accelerating the maritime sector’s shift toward cleaner, more efficient power solutions.
