Vale and GreenIron have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on innovative decarbonization initiatives in Brazil and Sweden. The partnership aims to advance the mining and metals supply chain’s sustainability by leveraging green hydrogen and low-carbon technologies.
Key Areas of Collaboration
- Feasibility Study for Direct Reduction Facility in Brazil:
- Both companies will explore the development of a direct reduction facility in Brazil, operated by GreenIron.
- The study will identify potential sites, assess renewable energy sources, and evaluate the use of green hydrogen to minimize environmental impacts.
- Supply of Vale’s Iron Ore to GreenIron in Sweden:
- Vale will supply iron ore agglomerates to GreenIron’s Sandviken facility in Sweden, where commercial operations are expected to scale up by 2025.
- Future tests will include Vale’s innovative iron ore briquettes, which have a lower CO₂ footprint compared to traditional pellets.
