Worley Secures Contract for Europe’s Largest Renewable Hydrogen Project in Rotterdam

Worley has been awarded a significant contract by Shell to provide project services for Europe’s largest renewable hydrogen project, located in the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. This project, known as Holland Hydrogen 1 (HH1), marks a continuation of the collaborative efforts between Shell and Worley that began in late 2020 with early engineering services.

Under the terms of the contract, Worley will deliver detailed design and procurement services, alongside construction management support. This includes essential integration with critical vendors and assets such as offshore wind farms, pipelines, electrical grids, and the refinery.

Powered by renewable energy from a developing offshore wind farm, the 200MW electrolyzer of HH1 will stand as the largest commercial renewable hydrogen production facility in Europe upon completion. It is expected to generate approximately 60,000 kg of hydrogen daily, sufficient to fuel 2,300 hydrogen trucks.

The project primarily aims to use the renewable hydrogen produced at Shell’s Energy and Chemicals Park in Rotterdam. This initiative will help reduce the carbon footprint of fossil fuel production and support hydrogen use in the heavy transportation sector.

Worley’s team in The Hague, supplemented by the Global Integrated Delivery team in Mumbai, will spearhead the work. The project will also benefit from the expertise of Worley’s global hydrogen specialists.

Mark Trueman, Group President and Shell Account Executive Sponsor at Worley, emphasized the significance of the HH1 project as a testament to the indispensable partnership between Worley and Shell in developing pioneering large-scale renewable hydrogen infrastructure. He expressed gratitude for Shell’s trust and reiterated Worley’s commitment to collaboratively delivering this landmark project.
