Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ: PLUG), a global provider of end-to-end hydrogen technologies, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Hy2gen to supply a 5-megawatt PEM electrolyzer for the Sunrhyse green hydrogen project in Signes, France. The agreement marks a significant step toward expanding RFNBO-compliant hydrogen production in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and strengthening France’s broader hydrogen deployment goals.
Hy2gen, recognized globally for developing and operating renewable hydrogen and e-fuel plants, is leading the Sunrhyse initiative—one of southern France’s flagship projects dedicated to producing certified renewable hydrogen. Under the LOI, Plug Power will deliver the electrolyzer unit and support the distribution of the hydrogen produced onsite. The collaboration also paves the way for Plug to expand its hydrogen-powered forklift and logistics solutions across regional industrial hubs.
The partnership builds on the companies’ growing portfolio of joint developments, including Hy2gen’s Project Courant in Québec, which features a large-scale electrolyzer installation expected to reach final investment decision before 2027. Together, Plug and Hy2gen are establishing a cross-continental development framework aimed at accelerating renewable hydrogen production and infrastructure in the EU and North America.
“Scaling RFNBO hydrogen production in France is central to Plug’s European growth strategy,” said José Luis Crespo, President and Chief Revenue Officer at Plug Power. “Sunrhyse will help build a localized hydrogen ecosystem capable of supporting logistics, transport, and industrial users across southern France—all critical sectors for reaching regional climate objectives.”
Hy2gen CEO Cyril Dufau-Sansot added: “Sunrhyse is a crucial milestone in France’s transition to renewable hydrogen. Working with Plug Power enables us to demonstrate how rapidly high-quality green hydrogen solutions can be deployed at commercial scale.”
Plug’s involvement in Sunrhyse further strengthens its European footprint, complementing its hydrogen generation and supply operations in Germany and the Netherlands. The collaboration positions Plug Power and Hy2gen at the forefront of developing an integrated, resilient green hydrogen network across Europe.
